Value Fund Holdings

I'm going to occassionally do write ups on the holdings of managers I respect. Generally you can expect them to be value managers with excellent results

Arlington Value

Manager Allan Mecham has been beating the S&P 500 for years, and is still in his 30s. He has outperformed by 10% per year, and was up in 2008 during the crisis. He runs the fund with significant concentration.

Oceanstone Fund

The Oceanstone fund has been outperforming the S&P by ~30% per annum, and has done it with a concentrated portfolio of deep value picks, and often with a large cash weighting for downside protection.

  1. Hey can you post more about Oceanstone? Looks like a tiny fund managed/owned by a reclusive manager. Impressive performance though. Care you share more information?

    1. I'm planning an update article on Oceanstone soon, so definitely check back. Definitely a reclusive value guy, but the performance is borderline unbelievable its so good. I actually originally came across him when researching a stock we both owned. The part I find most impressive is he's been able to keep up with a quickly rising market the last few years while holding a huge amount of cash. That seems like a pretty big benefit, as if the market ever crashes again he'll have huge outperformance and a ton of dry powder to pick up bargains.
